It’s very common amongst any type of competitive environment. When I was a student, everyone wanted to know how I did on the test. When playing tennis, everyone just wanted to be better than each other instead of trying to be better than their past self.
My coworkers want to be better than me instead of figuring out how they can be better for their own bosses. This is how the real winners think. This is the winners’ mentality. Novak Djokovic rose to the top of the tennis world not because he wanted to be better than Rafael Nadal or Roger Federer.
But because he wanted to be in the best condition ever for himself. Therefore, he figured out what makes his body tick and how his body is wired in the first place. Winners focus on winning losers focus on winners because it’s how each person operates.
They’re wired to be in such a way. When you want to focus on bettering yourself and servicing the ones who are really important in furthering your own interests is when you succeed. That’s how explosive growth happens in a single year. It’s figuring out and knowing about yourself that makes the difference.

1) Winners Focus on What’s Really Important
It’s not being better than their competition. If you focus on your competition, then the best you’ll ever get to is better than your competitor. If you focus on yourself, then the best you’ll ever get to is limitless. The best business owners don’t focus on being 1% better than their competitors.
The best business owners focus on being the best they can be for their customers. Jeff Bezos famously tells business owners to be customer obsessed and not competitor obsessed. Solving the customers’ problems is why some businesses exhibit meteoritic growth one year.
Versus another company who just improves by 1 – 10% per year. A stable and steady growth but they’ll never get to numbers where it really matters. Winners focus on winning loser focus on winners because the losers haven’t figured it out yet on who’s responsible for elevating their success.
Their competitors will not help them achieve success, but their customers will.

Jealous is an ugly emotion that hurts many people. Envy is why people pursue irrational projects. Projects they have no business of going into in the first place but they do it anyway because their competitors do it. Apple sells consumer electronics.
However, they have to keep their image and reputation on as a premium brand. They will NEVER copy any of their competitors’ idea of a cheap phone like Amazon’s attempt with the Fire Phone. They never get jealous of any of their competitors’ success but rather focus on their own journey and destination.
Winners focus on winning losers focus on winners because of envy and jealousy. Envy is one of the worst things you can do for your life because it actually stunts and prevents growth. Some of my friends got a $300k job offer when they were just 27 years old.
However, instead of focusing on their successes, I focused on my own path. My friends ended up quitting the new job within 7 months because it was so toxic. The grass is not greener on the other side.
3) Winners Want to Improve Themselves
Winners focus on winning losers focus on winners because winners are solely focused on improving themselves. They don’t care of someone else surpasses them because they have their own journey to take care of. Their journeys matter more to them than someone else’s.
Consistent improvement over the years and decades is what separates the winners from the losers. Every year, I’m trying to get richer than where I started the year. The bear market of 2022 made that path much more difficult but it didn’t stop me from trying, anyway.
I’m trying everything I can to get ahead financially. I’m writing this blog, working on my Twitter, and anything in between to get there. I have a dying need to make my life a success and I’m never going to give up on my path.
Constant improvement is a great goal to strive for. You always want to be evolving and achieving progress.

Losers don’t care if they succeed, themselves. It’s not enough for them. Losers want others to fail as well. That’s too much of a hyper competitive world in that the end result is that they achieve nothing. Just even focusing on yourself is hard enough as-is.
Focusing on yourself AND your competition is infinitely harder. It’s so difficult that the chances of failure is much higher. Each business, goal, and target requires your time, attention, and effort to see it through to completion.
Winners focus on winning losers focus on winners because the priorities are just different for each. Bringing other people down shrinks the entire pie for society. Winners try to increase the pie for everyone involved so that everyone eats. Losers just care about eating for themselves.
How many people would actually want to be around the ones who are actively trying to bring them down? Very little to none.

Winners have a growth mindset while losers have a small mindset. A growth mindset is one where everyone benefits and everyone eats. Yes, the winner will win the most out of everyone else, but that is irrelevant. What matters is that everyone has the chance to eat and come out ahead.
A growth mindset is one of abundance, a small mindset is one of desperation and short-term thinking. Winners focus on winning losers focus on winners because the motivation and mindset between each are completely different, if not opposite. Winners focus on bettering the lives of people around them.
Losers focus on bettering their own lives and their own lives only. Their ability to attract other people to their vision and focus is slim to none. No one ever wants to work for someone who belittles their every move. Short-term, yes, because the money is worth it.
Long-term, absolutely not. Not once they realize they have their pick of the litter when choosing an employer and a leader.

Social media made so many people’s lives worse. Winners focus on winning and losers focus on winners because social media made it possible for people to “brag” and showcase their “amazing” lives on those platforms. People just don’t want to make it look like they are a loser.
Even if they are the ones who are losing. There are many YouTubers who were raining in money in the 2020 – 2021 asset bubble that ensued. Then many YouTubers either quit or showcases their losses onto social media channels. You think the good times last forever. Until they don’t.
Social media such as YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, and the like has everyone thinking they should be married, having kids, and become a millionaire by 30. That’s just not true. You’re not too early or too late, you have plenty of time to get to where you want to get to.
Social media should be ignored. If you’re not building a business on Social Media, then it’s a waste of money and time otherwise. What’s on the surface doesn’t tell the full story.
7) Losers Think Life is a Zero Sum Game
Winners focus on winning losers focus on winners because they don’t know life is not a zero sum game. The winners’ win is not the loser’s loss. However, the loser has no choice but to think in such a manner because they think someone else’s win takes away their own.
Life is not a poker game where one person’s loss equals one person’s win. That’s not how life works. Every day, the pie gets bigger as more people are born. There’s plenty of opportunities and chances to take advantage of. It’s not always just once in a lifetime opportunity that passes your way.
EVERYONE can win. it’s just about who’s willing to put in the work. If someone else wins, then that’s great for them. However, that doesn’t take anything away from anyone else’s accomplishments. Even though there are limited resources in the world, it’s still not a zero sum game.
If one venture doesn’t work out, there’s an infinite number of ventures to pursue. The opportunities are endless.

Winners focus on winning, losers focus on winners because it’s easier to bring someone down than it is to elevate yourself. Losers know they’ll never elevate to someone else’s levels so they have a dying need to bring people down.
Winners don’t think in such a manner. They elevate others up. They know they’re already good enough and they are comfortable and happy with who they are. Winners are happy with their accomplishments and want to better themselves more than hurt someone else.
Winners know, deep down, they are going to accomplish great things and losers know, deep down, they’ll never be as good as the winners. No matter how hard they try. That’s not the right way to think. Everyone has the chance to win.
You do need a little bit of luck throughout your journey but that’s only one small component to upward mobility.

Winners focus on winning, losers focus on winners because winners want what’s best for society. In turn, society gives them more opportunities because they like that life philosophy. Losers focus on winners because they’re only focused on bettering their life.
In turn, society gives them less opportunities because why is it in the society’s best interest to give them opportunities? Losers will turn their back on them the second it serves and suits their interests. When you focus on making and improving other people’s lives, you benefit in the end.
People want to buy more product from you, lend you their time, and the like. No one wants to associate themselves with anyone who is negative all the time. It’s not attractive. When you focus on fixing a problem for others, others are more than willing to pay money for your service.
That’s how the winners stay as a winner. We can’t move forward if we don’t have people vouching and fighting for us.

There’s no point in being a loser. Winners focus on winning, losers focus on winners because it’s their personal characteristics that determines whether they are a winner or a loser. Nothing else. It’s not their winning and losing characteristic that drives who they are as a person.
It’s the other way around. Some are born to be a winner. To have someone else help and give them opportunities because they earned a seat at the table. It doesn’t happen overnight but everyone has the potential to be a winner. It takes focus to execute on the ideas.
2022 was one of the worst years of my life and I learned firsthand who I am. It was difficult but I finally figured out my pain points and learned on bettering myself instead of keeping others down. Family members are one of the worst people who’ll do anything to drag you down.
If they see you winning, family members actively try to bring you down because they see you as competition. Winners focus on winning losers focus on winners. The great news is that everyone has the choice to become a winner. Every single day.
Our choices dictate our life and nothing else does. We make 35,000 decisions and choices per day. Out of those 35,000 decisions, there are decisions that allow you to achieve upward mobility and become a winner. It’s compound effort beautifully at play.
