Be a go getter of your goals instead of waiting for others to hand it to you. Others are not going to hand it to you. You’re going to have to get things you want yourself. Others are too busy getting things that they want that they’re not going to lend you a helping hand. Depend on no one but yourself.
This lesson hit me while I was watching an episode of Shark Tank. A company had too much dependence on a single customer for their revenue source. If the customer didn’t pay the company, they were daed. That’s when Mark Cuban chimed in and told them that “you can’t be dependent“.
That line hit me harder than any other line of the show. I realized and reflected on how I might’ve been too dependent on others. Don’t depend or rely on others. Relying on others is a surefire way for you to be destroyed. Stand on your own two feet. Dependence is one way others will take advantage of you.
Be a go getter of your goals so that others eventually depend on you. Don’t expect anyone else to do it for you because you’re going to be disappointed. You have to make things happen yourself. Yes, there truly are people who didn’t earn their successes. Inheritances and the like.
However, the vast majority of wealthy people today didn’t get lucky through inheritances or lottery winnings. They got there through hard work, diligence, and putting in the effort. No one got there because they waited for results to happen. They went after what they wanted.
Who is a Go Getter?
So now, who fits the profile of a go-getter? A go-getter is one who constantly puts in effort. Who constantly goes through rejections after rejections in order to get their goals. They know that when they bother someone else to give them something, they’re going to be faced with rejections.
They don’t care. If they can eventually get what they want by hearing a few no’s along the way, they’re more than happy to do so. They persevere even when the odds are against them. In fact, they play the game even when the odds are stacked against them. They win anyway.
That’s what it means to be a go getter. I have to tell you, it’s not easy. It’s not easy to go to someone else and ask for something because you are at their mercy. You came to them, not the other way around. It’s hurtful and sometimes very demoralizing. There are days when you just don’t want to go on.
Those days are fine. It’s what you do to overcome those days that makes the difference between who you are. A true go-getter is affected by those events but aren’t defeated by those events. No matter how hard it gets, they still put in the work after taking a breather and regrouping.
I’ve been there before. It’s hard to be a go getter because sometimes, those days hit you often. Last year, I was downright miserable working a job that I absolutely despised. However, now, I’m working a job that I love. It took an entire year in order to get there and I am very happy that I put in the work to get here.
How to be a Go Getter
One easy way to be a go getter is to SMASH that social share button and share this knowledge with your friends without being asked to! Your friends could benefit from it and if anything, please share the article for me.
So with that said let’s get into the details of how to get after your goals!
1) Being a Go Getter Starts with Desire
You can’t be a go getter if you don’t want to. You have to want it. If you don’t want it, your effort is going to feel like a chore. Like you’re putting in the work because you have to. Not because you want to. You don’t want to feel that. You want to put in the work because you actually have a burning desire to.
For me, fear drove me. I was dead afraid that I was going to end up as a nobody. So that fear drove me to put in much more effort than my peers in order to get there. And I’m there. Although I’m not quite where I want to be, I know I’m at the almost top of the jungle.
A $430,000 net worth at the age of 27 is at least top 2% net worth for my age group. I am absolutely happy about accomplishing it. However, I couldn’t have gotten there if I didn’t have a dying need and want to get there. There are still more things that I want to accomplish but this is a great start.
2) Go Getters Take Risks
You have to risk it to get the biscuit. It’s not possible to get there if you don’t take some risk along the way. You have to invest your money if you want to be rich. You have to apply and face rejection if you want a job. If there’s a cute boy or girl, you have to take risks and approach that person to get them.
To be a go getter, you have to take risks in order to get there. If you don’t take risks, you’re going to be left behind by others who take an appropriate amount of risk. You don’t need to take risks such as betting the entire farm. However, you do need to take an appropriate amount of risk.
If failing hurts you so much that you avoid it, you’re not going to get there. You can’t make money without risking losing money as well. You can’t have it both ways. There’s no safe way in order to build wealth. It involves some amount of risk to get there.
3) Believe You Deserve More
You can’t be a go getter if you think you’ve gotten everything you deserve. You have to want more and you have to believe you’re worthy to deserve more. There are actual entrepreneurs out there who refuse to take in billings that will take them above the million dollar revenue year.
Why is that? They are afraid. They feel like they don’t deserve to make that much money. Even when they are more than worthy to make more than what they made. You have to have a belief that you are worthy and deserving of happiness, wealth, and love. You can’t sell yourself to others if you don’t believe in yourself.
There’s plenty to go around for everyone and there’s an abundance of resources for you to get. The question is, do you truly feel like you deserve more things? Or are you OK with others taking advantage of you? Others will take advantage of you if you let them take advantage of you.
4) Never Stop Learning
To be a go getter, you have to continuously be learning. There’s an infinite number of things that you’ll learn from. Every day, you have to be learning something new. That’s how much of learning there is in the world. It doesn’t have to be from formal education like a college degree, either.
it can be from going through every day life. Losing to an opponent who’s better than you it’s a surefire way to learn. You could spend money on books, seminars, and events. However, a better teacher is learning through experiences. Experiential learning will explode in the coming years.
People don’t want to learn how to cook from a cookbook. They want to learn how to cook from an actual real life person who’s been there before. They want to feel what it feels like to cook instead of just knowing about it. If you are continuously learning, then you are on the right path.
5) Get Frustrated with the Status Quo
You want to be a go getter because you have to want things to change. You’re not satisfied with what you have right now. You want more, and you want different things. You can get this feeling from frustration. In 2021, I was downright miserable at my life.
I was frustrated beyond words because I was sick and tired of staying at the same pace over and over again. I wanted change and I wanted something different. That’s going to be the fuse that’s going to let you get after your goals. When you want things to change and are motivated to make change happen.
You want to go after your goals because you haven’t gotten there yet. There’s something missing with your life. Maybe you’re on your way to get there, maybe you’re not. But the important thing is you’re not there yet. What’s holding you back? You deserve more than what you have right now.
6) Surround Yourself with Go Getters
You don’t have to find five other friends in real life who are all go getters. There are social friends, after all. You can also meet people on Twitter. I’ve met so many of my friends on Twitter. The people there have goals that are aligned with my goals.
They want to help each other out and want to better their financial situations. Just like me. I’ve also met Twitter friends who are influencers, who I want to be as well. The people are out there from whom you can learn from AND grow with. The question is, are you willing to actually make that step to meeting the people?
If you surround yourself with 5 lazy people, don’t be surprised when you’re the 6th. There are Youtube videos now who you can learn from and surround yourself with. I personally read the biographies of the Sharks from Shark Tank in order to better my mindset. It’s paid off in spades so far.
7) Go Getters Don’t Make Excuses
To be a go getter means that sometimes, you have to lose. And when they lose, they don’t make excuses and blame it on others. They own it and take responsibilities for their shortcomings and failures. They vow to never let themselves get put in that situation again.
In this capitalistic society, there’s always winners and losers. They’re always going to exist. When you lose, you look at situations in which you could’ve controlled and not been taken advantage of. Yes, you could’ve been dealt a bad hand. That’s absolutely not your fault.
However, there’s an abundance of resources available for you. There’s an endless amount of opportunities out there for the world’s taking. Winners don’t make excuses when the other side plays the game. They figure out how to play the game better than the other side and use the tactics against them. .
8) Never Forget Your Goal
If you want to be a go getter, you have to be obsessed with your goals. I write down the one goal that I want to achieve more than anything in the world in 2022. Which is to be a millionaire. Yes, I’m thinking about it quite often to the point where it’s an obsession.
I don’t see anything wrong with that because it’s that important to me. I’m going to keep telling myself that I’m going to be a millionaire until one day it’s going to make it happen. Then that’s when everyone is going to be wondering how I made it happen.
Don’t forget your goals. You made it into a goal for a reason. It was important enough for you to write it down as a goal. Whatever you want to accomplish, you can accomplish. Make it into an obsession, it doesn’t hold a negative weight like everyone thinks it does.
9) Be Stubborn
To be a go getter, you need a level of stubbornness to get there. You have to refuse to compromise on your goals. As an Asian American with a Bachelor’s degree, I have approximately an 18% chance of becoming a millionaire. An 18% chance?! I refuse to believe that.
I’m stubborn with my goals. I believe that I have a 100% chance of becoming a millionaire. There’s no way that I won’t be a millionaire in my life. I refuse to settle for less and I am stubborn with getting after my goals. Be stubborn and go after your goals no matter what.
There’s so many people who are willing to comprise on their goals. When it’s important to you enough, you don’t compromise on the goals. You refuse to let anyone tell you you can’t achieve them. Because deep down inside, you know you’re going to achieve it.
What’re You Waiting For? Be a Go Getter
Now that you know how to be a go getter, now it’s time to actually be one. The biggest test to the process will be people telling you that it can’t be done. People will mock you and not take you seriously when you think big and actually take steps to better your life. Others want to drag you down with them.
Don’t let them do that. It’s going to be the most surprising thing you’ll ever experience. When I first started my job, my coworkers would mock me for maxing out my 401k. It was shocking. They thought it was something they could put off until later. However, I’m happy with my current 401k balance of almost $230k.
While my coworkers who mocked me doesn’t have anywhere near six figures in their 401k. It was great. That’s what you’re going to experience while being a go getter. Others will want to drag you down to their levels. Because deep down inside, they want you to be one of them.
it will be shocking when you go through this experience. This will be the biggest test you will ever face. Ignoring others. My former boss would tell me, “you worked hard at university, now’s the time to let loose and relax”. I ignored her bad advice and still do to this day.
Be a go getter by ignoring other people. They’re not going to get to a level anywhere near where you want to be. Once you get there, other people are going to want to know how you did it. That’s going to be when you know that you downright won.
