In life, you don’t get what you deserve, you get what you fight for. There are many people who get the short end of the stick because they don’t fight for what they want and need. They let their pride and ego get in the way, which is never the right move.

You may deserve good things in life. However, if you don’t actively take steps to get what you want in life, nothing is ever going to happen. People are never going to hand things to you. Even simple things like knowing where the restroom is.

No one’s going to proactively tell you where it is, you have to ask for it. You can’t blame the world for not giving you what you want and what you think you deserve if you don’t work to get it. This is a big reason why people brand millennials as entitled.

You earn your place in this world. No one hands you things just because you exist. You have to prove your value and worth to the world before you get what you deserve. Otherwise, you are telling others just how great you are without having the substance to back it up.

The world doesn’t owe you anything. it’s up to you to take action and get what you want in life. You know your potential is worth so much more than what you have right now. The only person stopping you from realizing that potential is you.

It’s time to get off the couch and make something happen.

How to Get What You Deserve in Life: 9 Ways

There are nine concrete and actionable ways to get what you deserve in life.

1) Get What You Deserve in Life By Negotiating

You don’t get what you deserve, you get what you negotiate. You’ll always be talking to someone else who has what you want. Whether it’s a job, medical services, and the like. You’ll always have to converse with someone else who has what you want and vice versa.

When an employer wants your labor, you don’t just say yes to the first offer. You think about it and negotiate. My salary negotiation example got my compensation package from $86k to $110k with just one stroke. I did it through negotiation and fighting for what I deserve to be paid.

The world is determined by people and you are a player in the world on how that world is shaped. Someone never holds all the cards on the table. You have the power to shape your life the way that you want. Your words are powerful.

There’s a reason why Warren Buffett values communication skills so highly. The better you are at talking and communicating, the easier your life becomes in getting others to give you what you want.

2) Figure Out What You Want

Get what you deserve in life by finding out what you want.
What you want is within arm’s reach.

You wouldn’t even know how to get what you deserve in life if you don’t even know what you want or deserve. For me, personally, I know that I deserve to be a millionaire. Therefore, I’m actively taking steps to get there. I’m always asking for more money for the value I provide.

I’m pursuing side projects on the weekends that’ll make me more money. And to cap it all off, I’m investing my money so that it grows to larger amounts down the road. It’s the little wins and the big wins that I’m taking care of.

The first step in getting what you deserve in life has to start with what you want and deserve in life. Is it more fame? Is it more money? Whatever it is, measure the amount of value you bring to the world. Then evaluate whether you are getting what you want out of the deal.

People should pay you for the results and value you bring. Not your effort it took to get the job done.

3) Fight For It

No one ever hands everything out to you. You have to fight to get what you deserve. Just as you don’t want to give up anything that you have, others don’t want to give up anything they have either. To get what you deserve, you have to fight for it.

If you want it, you can bet others want it too. There are many other people on Earth who would love to be in your position right now. And they’re willing to work harder than you to get it. Are you going to let them just have it or are you going to fight for your place in the world?

Obama had to fight for his spot as the President of the United States. His campaign speeches were full of life, bouncy, and full of energy. Once he got to the top, he became much more reserved, calm, and soft spoken. He doesn’t need to prove himself to anyone anymore.

He’s already the President of the United States. Once you get to the top, you can relax in proving yourself. However, until you do, you will be fighting for what you want and deserve.

4) Don’t Settle for Less

There’s many people I met with tons of potential but they don’t want to do anything about it. They would get A’s in college but when it came time to the real world, they can’t do anything meaningful. The waste of talent that’s prevalent in the world is monstrous.

If you want to get what you deserve, don’t settle for less. Believe that you are worthy of so much more and then work towards it. The first $100 that I ever made online felt unreal to me. I didn’t think I even deserved to make that money, let alone think that making money online was possible.

However, I’m not settling for that amount. I want to make more money online and I’m working every week and weekend to get there. If you want to get what you deserve, you can’t settle for less. You are worthy of achieving more things in life and you should get more things for yourself.

Don’t let anyone make you feel you are less than.

5) Have High Standards for Yourself

Get what you deserve in life by having high standards for yourself.
You should have high standards for yourself.

Whether you think you deserve more or you don’t, you’re right. If you want to get what you deserve, you have to have high standards for yourself. You have to know what you are capable of. All of the all-time greats already knew they were destined for greater things than where they were before.

If you don’t think you deserve anything of value, then that’s exactly what you’ll get. Why would anyone give you a $100k job if you don’t believe you are worthy of it yourself? Why would anyone give you the time of day if you don’t believe you are worthy of it?

Your standards of yourself should be high. You just know it within your bones if you are destined for greater things. You just know if you belong in the top 1% club because you don’t think they have anything special. If they can do it, so can you.

It just takes effort and luck to get there.

6) Believe You Are Deserving of More

When I was making $110,000 as a 24-year old, I felt like I made it. I felt like I made it to the top of the world. I didn’t think I deserved to make more because I was out-earning so many of my friends. Looking back on it, I realized just what a bad mindset that really was.

When I finally broke the $200k income level is when I finally understood. I actually deserve more than the high income I was getting paid. That mindset prevented me from breaking the $200k income level by a solid 2 – 3 years. Don’t let yourself reject yourself.

If you want to get what you deserve, you have to believe that you are deserving of more. That was one of my biggest regrets because I don’t know how much more money I would be making today if I changed my mindset earlier on.

Whichever income level you want to get to, you are fully capable of getting there. It’s not “greed”, it’s taking care of yourself.

7) Take Risks

Get what you deserve in life by taking on risk.
Risk is a good thing.

No one ever got to the top without taking risks. Whether it’s a career change or whether it was a college change, you have to take risks to get to the top. The risks I’m taking right now are with side hustles, namely through my Twitter account and this blog.

I’m pouring time and money into the ventures and I have no idea if it’ll ever work out. If you want to get what you deserve in life, you have to take risks. Face rejection. Talk to people face to face. Salespeople face a ton of rejection every single day.

However, they don’t let that get them down. They just keep going and plow ahead. There’s a reason why a number of them make half a million dollars by 30. If you can make that much money but all you have to do is face rejection, why wouldn’t you do it?

Risks are an inherent part of your journey. Rejection hurts but not having success hurts even more.

8) Get What You Deserve in Life by Putting in Effort

No one ever became successful by not putting in effort. People put in the work to get to the top. Natural talent only goes so far. Getting what you deserve in life means putting in the effort, day in, day out, without fail. It took many successful people 4 years to begin to taste success.

Not become successful, but begin to become successful. I’m giving my blog and Twitter at least 4 years before I throw in the towel. You can’t get to the top without putting in effort because there are people out there willing to work 25 hours a day to keep you out of business.

Even if it takes an additional 10 – 15 hours a week to get to the top. That’s what weekends and nights are there for. For you to get ahead while people use those days to relax and take it easy. While they’re falling behind, you’re moving forward.

Hard work pays off. It may not be clear today but the picture will get clearer later on.

9) Don’t Give Up

Maybe you want to be a famous YouTube star or a finance influencer. Whatever it is, it doesn’t happen overnight. I’m on my seventh year of building wealth and I’m still nowhere near completion. Don’t give up on your goals, even if you get no results after six months.

I’m at least making progress year in and year out. That’s why I don’t mind the slow progress because slow progress is still progress. After a while, you will get frustrated with your progress and think of different ways to get to the top faster.

Getting what you deserve in life is a process that doesn’t end after six months. It’s a lifelong project and journey you undertake. As long as you know the general direction of where you’re going and you’re actually progressing forward, it’s not the time to give up.

It’s the time to keep going. I lost hope during the bear market of 2022 but I never gave up.

You Should Get What You Deserve in Life

There are actual people out there who refuse to generate $1mil in revenue from their business. Not because they’re not capable or because they can’t. But because they actually feel guilty to do $1million. They came from a small town where there weren’t a lot of expectations.

Therefore, they feel like they’re giving up on their roots if they make $1million from their business. That’s heartbreaking. You should get what you deserve in life and you shouldn’t be the person getting in the way of your goals.

It’s one thing if you weren’t good enough but it’s another if you are good enough but purposefully refuse to receive good things. Another example is the imposter syndrome at new job, experienced by many. It takes around a year before you feel comfortable with a new situation.

You get what you deserve as long as you put in the work and effort to get there. When the breakthrough happens, you’ll feel happy and amazing that it actually happened. Like someone is finally recognizing the good work and value you’re putting out into the world.

It doesn’t feel good to be underpaid and undervalued by society and the world. It’s one thing to not be liked and another to not be respected. You can command and gain respect from people by fighting for what you know you deserve.

Maybe they won’t like you but they will at least respect you.
